Before formation of Pakistan HVACR Society, no doubt, HVACR activities were present in the Country. But were not so organized and technical expertise was scattered and a uniform platform of course, was very much necessitated. Pakistan HVACR Society provided this unique platform and long awaited requirement was amicably met with.

The idea of HVACR representative body was conceived for the first time in 1993, which was implemented and put into practice. At that time, National Institute of Technical Education Islamabad – Ministry of Education desired to hold a National Conference / Workshop on Air- conditioning and Refrigeration Technology. In June 1993, they approached leading Manufacturers, Contractors, Engineers and Consultants associated with HVACR profession & industry. The idea was to consolidate and promote HVACR activities in the Country. This objective appealed to all organizations associated with HVACR field and full support was extended to NITE. By mutual discussion, the scope was extended simultaneously to conduct technical exhibition pertaining to HVACR products concurrently with a technical conference on issues & problems related to HVACR profession, trade & industry. It was decided to conduct the first Exhibition and Conference on October 23-24, 1993 at National Technical Teachers Training College Islamabad.

In June 1994, a meeting was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Mr. Anwar Saadat, whereby, it was decided to establish a society to promote the interest of HVACR field in the country. This was the beginning & Pakistan HVACR Society was established.

At that time, Pakistan HVACR Society was passing through teething period, working procedures had to be laid down, various disciplines were to be made and functional outlines had to be determined and finalized. It was very rightly visualized that once these matters are settled and Bylaws are made, the Society would be in much better position to be of an effective help and support to its members & the profession. To start and drag from very initial stage of square zero to this level of safe sailing, is indeed a great success & achievement and all those who did this difficult task really deserve solute for their selfless, dedicated and marvelous efforts. It goes without saying that HVACR activities have tremendously progressed under the umbrella of the Society. No doubt, foundation stone has been laid down and first step taken in the right and positive direction but still it has a long way ahead and much work has yet to be done for the progress, prosperity and betterment of this profession.

On the one hand, this organization will serve the profession, trade & industry through the experience & expertise of the professional elders and on the other hand it will also immensely help end users, manufacturers and all others related to this profession and industry. Its worth mentioning here that despite all these constraints, the Society has successfully conducted fifteen Exhibitions & Conferences, which is a significant feather in the cap of Society. The keen interest shown both by the business community and public at large is very healthy sign, which exhibits a bright future of the Society.  Being a representative body, well organized and informative institution, it may be of tremendous help to its members and other concerned, brief details tabulated below just for reference:

  1. Helping various Government agencies in formulating policies pertaining to HVACR activities in the country.
  2. It can extend help to its members in resolving in-house disputes, if any amongst members.

3.Settlement of problems of its members with Government Departments, Private Enterprises, Contractors or anywhere required.

  • Now the Society has clear-cut goals and determined objectives, brief narration given hereunder:
  • To establish, maintain and operate an association of members from the profession of HVACR Engineering.
  • To promote the advancement of HVACR engineering sciences and technology.
  • To provide a central platform for members to communicate, exchange views and expert ideas for development of products and services of HVACR industry.
  • To develop professional skill by disseminating current information on global changes and developments in HVACR technology.
  • To maintain high professional standards, establish and maintain code of conduct.
  • To conduct workshops, conferences, seminars and exhibitions for advancement of HVACR engineering sciences and technology.
  • To provide assistance to different groups of HVACR industry, to form their individual associations and to provide guidance for keeping these associations active.
  • To nominate delegates for participation in national and international seminars / exhibitions / forums.

The Pakistan HVACR Society has built up different forums and various committees at all levels. The Society goes into election after every two years and different bodies are elected to look after affairs of the Society. The most effective and powerful elected body is Executive Council at Head Quarter level. This body is headed by a President and meets after every 2-3 months. The Executive Council is supported by three chapters presently operative at Islamabad, Lahore & Karachi. The Executive Council comprises of 18 members and Mr. Mohammad Abbas Sajid is the President in chair, Mr. Shahbaz Khan – S. Vice President, Mr. Mubesher Ahmad- V. President, Ch. Nadeem A. Rauf- Honorary General Secretary, an Honorary Finance Secretary, a Media & Publication Secretary, three Chapter Chairmen and eight Council Members.

They are working on volunteer basis with no personal motives and devoting their time, energy, experience, skill and expertise for the cause of promotion of HVACR profession in Pakistan. The decisions taken in the Executive Council meetings are executed at branch level better known as Chapters. Similarly each Chapter Council is also directly elected and is headed by a Chapter Chairman. The Society has its principal office at Islamabad known as Society Head Quarter. At the moment, three local Councils are actively functional at Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.

The Pakistan HVACR Society, right form its inception, has been marching ahead rapidly and has achieved big landmarks. These two decades of its history are full of life, developments, achievements, recognition and acceptance; a big history in a relatively short span of time.

The sphere of acceptance and recognition of Pakistan HVACR Society has even crossed the territorial boundaries of Pakistan. 1997 was another important  year when the Society made a big achievement by obtaining affiliation with ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc). which is  the largest institution of its kind in the world having more than 50,000 members worldwide.

The Society successfully made efforts for establishing of an ASHRAE Chapter in Pakistan. Eventually ASHRAE Pakistan Chapter was chartered in Karachi in September 2003; another feather in the Society’s cap. This became possible due to dedicated interest, prolonged and hectic efforts of the Society management and in particular, the then Society President, who had always been instrumental and looking for the possibilities of improvement and betterment of Society, both internally and externally. Currently there are about two hundred ASHRAE members in Pakistan and we now have three ASHRAE chapters in Pakistan. We also have seven ASHRAE student Chapters in the country.

The Pakistan HVACR Society has successfully conducted annual exhibitions and Conferences on rotational basis at Islamabad, Lahore & Karachi. The interest shown by the industrial sector, businessmen groups and all concerned with HVACR activities, is definitely a healthy and encouraging sign for the progress, prosperity and technological advancement in the country.

The 22ND Expo & Conference is being organized at Jinnah Convention Center, Islamabad from March 6-8, 2015. Over 250 stalls have been booked by leading manufacturers, traders, agents, suppliers, manufacturers’ representatives and Industrial groups.

Simultaneously an annual HVACR Conference is also being arranged where distinguished speakers with vast technical expertise in their respective fields will make presentations on new and emerging trends and developments in the HVACR Industry.

A General Body Meeting of the members of Pakistan HVACR Society is also planned where strategic planning will be carried out for the years to come and important decisions about the Society’s future would be taken.

To commemorate the 22nd Expo & Conference, a farewell dinner followed by a cultural show has also been arranged.
